ADVANCED ANESTHETIC SAFETY

• Bionet Vet Next anesthesia monitor—Continuously monitors your pet’s body temperature, blood pressure, EKG, respiration, heart rate, and blood oxygen saturation.
• Circulating warm water blanket and “Cloud 9” warm air blanket—Prevents hypothermia, a major side effect of anesthesia that puts pets at risk for complications, discomfort, and slow recovery.
• Discounted pre-anesthetic blood work—Prior to surgery, we recommend that every pet undergo pre-anesthetic blood work. Although this is optional for younger animals, it is required in senior pets (those over the age of seven). This allows us to search for abnormalities that may not agree with anesthesia or, in some cases, alters the anesthetic protocol. In such an event, surgery may be postponed or canceled, as the risk of anesthesia may be too high.
• Licensed veterinary technician—Constantly monitors your pet for appropriate levels of anesthesia and any early indications of complications.

VETERINARY SURGERY: WHAT TO EXPECT

By midnight the night before surgery, you will need to remove all food unless your pet has a preexisting condition such as diabetes, in which case you should consult with your assigned veterinarian. Please bring your pet to our animal hospital at your admissions appointment (generally between 8 and 9 a.m.) on the morning of your pet’s scheduled surgery. You will need to allow approximately 15 minutes for a surgical briefing as well as a review of Presurgical Bloodwork Consent Form. We do hospitalize both stable and critical care patients during business hours, but some critical care patients may be recommended for transfer to a 24-hour facility designed for overnight stays.
